Coyote’s Fatal Flaw

One day, Coyote’s tobacco smoking

pounded on the door and

dragged him to the hospital.

A heart attack on a ladder.

From that day on, Coyote was

tied down.

Tubes snaked through the hogan,

hissing their pleasure as they

rendered him silent,

Coyote’s thundering silenced to a thread.

Coyote’s granddaughter,

no longer a bruiser,

brings her boyfriend to the hogan.

Coyote, his eyes on fire,

tells the old stories to a kindred spirit.

Grandmother smiles as

hands gesture what words fail to convey.

Coyote nods his approval of this

new suitor.
